Gai Jatra, also known as Sa Paru in the Nepal Bhasa language, is a festive tradition in Nepal, particularly embraced by the Newar community in the Kathmandu valley. This celebration serves as a tribute to the loved ones who have passed away in the preceding year. The festival is a time to remember lost ones and also to ease the pain. The word "Gai" means cow in English, and cows are regarded as the goddess of wealth in the Hindu religion.
