Fishtail Mountain & Mardi Himal: A Short Yet Breathtaking Himalayan Trek

Mardi Himal Base Camp is located at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) and offers breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare, and Mardi Himal itself. It is considered a trekking peak situated beneath the iconic Machapuchare, also known as Fishtail.

The name Machapuchare comes from two Nepali words: “Machha” meaning fish and “Puchhare” meaning tail. The mountain earned this name because its twin-peaked summit resembles the tail of a fish when viewed from specific angles.

Mardi Himal lies in the Annapurna region of Nepal, with Pokhara being the closest major city. Common starting points for the trek include Kande, Dhampus, or Phedi—all easily accessible from Pokhara. The trek is relatively short, typically taking 4 to 7 days, and is perfect for those seeking a quieter route with stunning Himalayan scenery.
